What is Hallucination? Its Symptoms, Causes, and Treatments”
Hallucinations might be danger for everyone indulge, anyway of whether you experience them directly or may you be the witnessing someone experiencing them. many light types of hallucinations can be affectively treated at home, but the severity or long persistent symptoms of hallucinations will always acquire professional help.
Understand the nature of hallucinations.
Hallucinations may affect on our all five senses like, our vision hearing, taste, smell, and touch or can say tactile. Hallucinations are disoriented and cause distress in our lives. Five hallucinations are as under:
- Auditory Hallucination When we experience hearing voices we said as auditory hallucination. People hear sound like, songs, and voices of people in the absence of the people. The voices may positive or negative. In negative sounds or voices some people try to suicide, but it is in rare cases.
- Visual Hallucination Seeing people, objects and other things that are not present in reality commonly we called this visual hallucination.
- Tactile Hallucination The sensation on our body part any insects or any objects even feeling of touch it would call tactile hallucination.
- Olfactory Hallucination or Phantosmia To feel smell, it may bad or good in your environment or in your surroundings mostly bad this is called olfactory hallucination or other term is used foe this symptom is Phantosmia. These symptoms experience mostly in epileptic people.
- Gustatory Hallucination, usually this type of hallucination is occurring when an individual feel unpleasant taste without any objects. Like olfactory hallucination, epileptic people experience gustatory hallucination also.
Causes of Hallucination
The possible causes of hallucinations are may as listed.
- Mini or short-term causes
- Mental health conditions
- Neurological condition
- Medications or drugs side effects
Mini or short-term causes
The following conditions or situations may Mini or short-term causes of hallucination
- Dropping sleep or waking up
- In hold of excessive use of alcohol or sedative drugs like, hash or marijuana
- In high fever, in this situation (fever) hallucination almost occurs but may in older age.
- Severe dehydration
- Deprivation of sleep
- Grieving
- After anaesthesia or after surgery process may feel hallucinations
Having experience of hallucinations in these above-mentioned conditions is not much important, but if you often feel hallucinations in these conditions should visit consultants for sake of treatment.
Mental health conditions
In schizophrenia this is most common symptoms of this disorder. Other mental health disorder that are more common that may cause hallucinations like, bipolar disorder in bipolar disorder people often experience in severe depressive phase. In major depression but with psychotic symptoms the people it may also experience hallucinations.
Neurological conditions
Neurological conditions that can cause hallucinations in epileptic People as you have already read above those the people with epilepsy can experience gustatory and olfactory hallucinations.
Medications or drugs side effects
Due to many medicines and drugs may cause of hallucinations. Not only medicine the drugs are also causes hallucinations, like hash/marijuana, and other psychedelic drugs. The people with drugs abuse and having hallucinations and have other symptoms of schizophrenia like delusions are called drug abuse psychosis.

For treatment of any disorder psycho-education is most important. with out psycho-education treatment may create difficulties. If you did not know/aware about his/her disease or disorder you can’t be treated easily.

When you have psycho-educated to individuals or clients, after this cognitive behavioral therapy is most important part of treatment. Cognitive behavioral therapy for hallucination helps the clients to change the negative thoughts into positive one.

during this psychological disorder people suffers from employment or own business defect as well. So, vocational therapy keeps engage individuals to touch their social and business life as well. Due to this therapy the people remain able to do their jobs and business as well.
